A recent study done by the Pork Nutrition Survey found that lean, trimmed pork is as lean as skinless chicken breast – and has half the fat of red meat. The survey also named pork as an excellent, low fat, high-protein dietary source. The report was based on research done on actual pork cuts purchased in retail stores across Australia to reflect what ‘real’ consumers purchase everyday. It concluded that pork is lean and nutrient rich. It contains essential vitamins such as B12, B6, thiamin, niacin, and minerals such as zinc, selenium, iron and magnesium.

The Good Fat

The Bangalow Sweet Pork Company is aware of consumers’ genuine concerns about eating bad animal fats. The fat content was tested by the CSRIO and results indicate it is comprised of about 60 % of unsaturated fat (unpublished data, Food Science Australia, 1998).

This fat profile, is the basis of our unique flavor and tenderness, compares very favorably with other meats, including most pork generally available in Australia.
